Mike, Phil, Rex and I headed for the hills on Thursday at 4pm. We arrived at a very foggy
Pen-y-Pass youth hostel at about 10pm. Fortunately the bar was open and we enjoyed a pint before bunking down for the night. On Friday morning there was mist in the air as we headed up Crib Goch and towards Snowdon.
Snowdon via Crib Goch is not for the fainted hearted. After a challenging but enjoyable climb to the summit came the ridge with a sheer drop on one side and a fairly scarey drop on the other. As I crawled along the ridge on all fours very slowly and not very bravely a dog walked past me and gave me a very disdainful sideways look his owner strolled past looking equally condescending. While I still can't work out what they were walking on it did give me greater confidence to get to the other side. We continued on throught the mist to the summit of Snowdon where the view was at it's usual two foot into the mist. We headed down the Llanberis pass did a bit of cross country path finding and then headed back to the hostel. It was a good test of our equipment and various muscles that haven't been used for a while. The day finished with a fine curry in Bangor and a very early night. It was gutting to leave Snowdonia early on Saturday when there wasn't a cloud in the sky and a very good days walking could have taken place. We'll be back soon for another training session, but for a first one it was very good.
